The Ewiks Unit
How it works
The Ewiks Caravan Mover features essential universal components along with several specialized brackets designed to enable its installation on most caravans equipped with rubber/torsion suspension systems. In the majority of cases, it only requires drilling four holes to securely bolt the brackets to the chassis (refer to Photo 1).
Engaging the drive is a simple process using the standard caravan wheel brace, provided for steadying operations. When the brace is placed on the actuator nut's head, it triggers a safety mechanism that allows you to effortlessly switch between the locked and unlocked positions (see Photo 2, Bottom).
This safety mechanism serves a dual purpose. Firstly, it ensures the Ewiks Caravan Mover is definitively engaged or disengaged, effectively acting as a reliable brake on steep inclines. Secondly, it prevents any accidental engagement while the caravan is being towed.
Conveniently situated on the handle of the pendant control box is a red safety button. This button must be continuously held down while operating the two control switches, effectively serving as a dead man's handle similar to those found on trains. This additional safety feature enhances the overall safety of the system.
Diving into the technical aspects, the motors are highly efficient thanks to the epicycle reduction gearbox. For most applications, the standard caravan battery is sufficient. However, for double-axle caravans like the Exclusive and Elegance models, which use four motors, it is recommended to have a 100 amp-hour battery for optimal performance.
The Ewiks Caravan Mover weighs approximately 25 kg per axle and is positioned in close proximity to the axle, resulting in minimal impact on the caravan's balance.
Unlike some other devices on the market, the Ewiks Caravan Mover is a permanent fixture on the caravan, always ready for use without the need to be retrieved from storage and attached.
Furthermore, in most cases, the unit can be easily removed and transferred to another caravan should the need arise.
